Army Corps opens comment period for Petersburg cruise dock

American Cruise Lines plans to construct a moorage float and gangway near downtown Petersburg under a borough lease.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is accepting public comments on a proposed Petersburg cruise ship dock project from Sept. 1 through Oct. 1. Comments should reference permit application POA-2026-00356.

American Cruise Lines plans to build the facility on borough-owned tidelands at the end of Dock Street, next to the U.S. Coast Guard dock. The project would allow the company’s passenger ships to tie up near downtown during the cruise season.

The Petersburg Borough Assembly unanimously approved a lease agreement with American Cruise Lines in April. Under that agreement, the borough will lease the tidelands to the company, which will construct a moorage float measuring 24 feet by 160 feet and a gangway measuring 10 feet by 100 feet.

According to the public notice, in-water construction is scheduled to begin the following March and take about four weeks. The project requires a permit, and the Army Corps must gather public input before deciding whether to issue it.
