Antigua Cruise Port upland project on track for November opening

Prime Minister Gaston Browne said the facility’s physical infrastructure would be completed as scheduled, while store operators prepare their spaces.

Prime Minister Gaston Browne toured the Antigua Cruise Port Upland Development on Tuesday, expressing satisfaction with its design, layout and range of retail spaces.

Browne said the facility itself would be completed for its planned November opening. According to the prime minister, every available store has been taken, leaving operators responsible for outfitting their spaces in time for the launch.

Plans for the development include retail outlets, restaurants, a signature day club and a pool. The project is being positioned as an extension of the visitor experience at Heritage Quay and Redcliffe Quay.

Browne said residents would also be permitted to enter the facility and use the pool, subject to rules set by management.

The Upland Development is part of the Antigua and Barbuda government’s partnership with Global Ports Holding. The project is intended to transform the St John’s waterfront, encourage higher visitor spending and improve the country’s competitiveness as a Caribbean cruise destination.
