AIDAperla captain praises Southampton pilots and port preparedness
Pedro Ziegler says regular exercises help local maritime personnel become familiar with visiting ships.

AIDAperla Captain Pedro Ziegler has highlighted the professionalism of Southampton’s pilots and the value of exercises conducted at the port. He said the drills help personnel become fully familiar with the ships they handle and expressed appreciation for the work carried out locally.
Ziegler said he has never experienced danger or difficulty aboard his ship while navigating Southampton waters. He has served as captain of AIDAperla for a little more than three years.
His maritime career includes commanding a cargo ship for the first time in 2009 before joining AIDA Cruises in 2012. Away from the vessel, Ziegler said he joined Southampton Municipal Golf Course. Although his time between voyages is limited, he sometimes plays there when his schedule allows, describing golf as an opportunity to step away from the ship and explore the city.
