Advance shore excursion bookings may offer savings and secure limited spots
Early reservations can help cruise guests access popular experiences while potentially receiving discounts.

Cruise passengers considering shore excursions may have financial and planning reasons to reserve before departure. Cruise expert Jill Schildhouse said certain cruise lines provide discounts of up to 30% when excursions are booked ahead of the sailing.
Advance reservations can also matter for availability. Keith Lane, a senior vice president at Celebrity Cruises, said early planning can help guests secure popular experiences and more intimate options that may fill quickly. He specifically highlighted small-group excursions, where capacity is limited.
Lane also said making arrangements before the cruise reduces the chance that guests will miss an excursion they want. According to Lane, passengers who complete that planning in advance can board with their vacation experience already organized and relax from the start of their trip.
