ABP seeks longer cruise parking use at former Leisure World site

The port operator has applied to keep the Southampton property in temporary use for cruise passenger parking until September 27, 2029.

Associated British Ports has submitted an application to extend the temporary use of the former Leisure World site as parking for cruise passengers. The existing approval is due to expire later this month, according to the application details.

ABP is seeking permission to continue the parking operation through September 27, 2029. The request follows an earlier decision by Southampton City Council’s planning and rights of way panel to restrict the previous permission to two years.

Panel members imposed that two-year limit at a meeting in June 2024. Most of the former Leisure World complex was subsequently demolished, and the cleared property has since operated as a temporary parking area serving cruise passengers. The latest application would allow that use to remain in place for several more years beyond the current expiry.
